Homeless Prevention Program
The Homeless Prevention Program provides Pokagon Band Citizens with emergency dollars to assist with housing needs. These dollars can be used for foreclosure/eviction redemption, security deposit, first months’ rent, or other emergency housing needs. There is a cap of assistance of $1,500.00 with the exception of foreclosures. This assistance can only be granted once in a five year period.
Eligibility requirements:
- Enrolled Pokagon Band Member 18ys or older, a Non- Pokagon Band Member who have custody of minor Pokagon Band children in the household or a Pokagon Band Member who is an emancipated minor.
- Meet low income requirements
- Must show affordability of the rental or mortgage (rental payment can not exceed 30% of monthly income)
- Member must attend financial classes
- Must be denied from another source before receiving assistance. If assistance is used for foreclosure redemption must make every effort to establish workout plan with mortgage company first
- Must not owe money to the tribe
